Students from the TV Production and Journalism classes at Penn-Trafford High School have qualified for the Pennsylvania School Press Association (PSPA) State Competition.
The students qualified through strong performances at the PSPA regional competition, hosted at Point Park University in November. In the journalism events, competitors were provided with a set of facts and quotes related to their category and challenged to write a complete article within a limited time. Winners were announced in January, with three Penn-Trafford students placing first in their respective categories to advance to the state level: Annabelle Aquino (News Story Writing), Mackenzie Cameron (News Feature Writing), and Mia Williams (Sports Story Writing).
In the TV Production categories, winners were selected from video submissions evaluated by PSPA judges. Four Penn-Trafford students qualified for the state competition in the Broadcast News and Broadcast Feature categories: Allyson Paulone for her feature on The Miracle League and Owen Tickerhoof, Chloe Stack, and Brooklyn Usmiller for their news package on the annual You’ve Got a Friend Day at Twin Lakes.
These students will now represent Penn-Trafford High School as they compete against the top student journalists and broadcasters from across Pennsylvania at Penn State University this spring.
