Student Contraptions Earn Awards

Students from Penn-Trafford High School’s Chain Reaction Teams participated in the Chain Reaction Contraption competition at the Carnegie Science Center in late November.  They competed against sixteen other teams from across the Pittsburgh region.

Two Penn-Trafford teams built impressive machines successfully executing the theme of "what does Thanksgiving mean to you".  ‘Team Mayflower’ built a ship executing the delivery of a turkey from the mast of their ship, taking home the award for Best Theme. ‘Team Turkey TV’ created a machine that included all the favorite Thanksgiving pastimes by illustrating the task of enjoying a good football game on this beloved holiday.  Turkey TV won 3rd place overall. These students will compete as a unified team in February presenting a more complicated design at Westinghouse.

“This preliminary event is about speed and creativity,” commented sponsor Mrs. Wukich.  “Our students exemplified both aspects and won prizes for their efforts!”
