Under the guidance of Penn-Trafford High School teacher Miss Miranda Frye, the district’s inaugural Unified Bocce team completed its very first competition on December 6.
Unified Bocce, a PIAA sport, is an initiative of the Special Olympics to promote inclusion. Penn-Trafford’s 8-member team consists of both regular education and special education students who work together in pursuit of a state title.
The December 6 invitational was held at Plum Senior High School and was an opportunity for new teams in the area (PT, Plum, Derry, Hempfield, Riverview, Steel Valley, and Mount Pleasant) to practice, play, and make sure all the players had a good understanding of the rules.
Penn-Trafford will host its first home game on January 11th at 3:30. “We are trying to get the gym as full as possible to celebrate our first game at home, so please come out and support us!” commented Frye.
