Penn-Trafford High School senior Mark Harris has won a national silver medal for his writing piece entitled "Moose Crossing" in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. He is among 10 students from the Pittsburgh Region to be recognized nationally.
More than 100,000 students submitted more than 260,000 works of art and writing to the 2023 Scholastic Awards. Mark's work was selected by a team of leaders in visual and literary arts for excellence in originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. Less than 2,000 works received a National Medal, which places him within the top 1% of all submissions.
“Mark was instrumental in helping the other Penn-Trafford students craft their pieces and submit their work in a timely manner,” said teacher Mrs. Wukich. “He worked hand in hand with our team leader Madeleine Frutos to assist with stomping Penn-Trafford's writing footprint in the Pittsburgh Region.”
