Students Design Space Patches

A team of Penn-Trafford High School students participated in the Fairchild Challenge which was sponsored by the Phipps Conservatory.  Fairchild is a yearlong project with monthly objectives. For December’s challenge, several teams from across the Pittsburgh Region were challenged to design two mission patches for NASA. The patches had to reflect NASA’s current mission: growing red robin tomatoes on the International Space Station. Students also submitted a short essay reflecting on their research and the design of their patches.

The Penn-Trafford team of  Mark Harris, Kristina Heins, Kate Malley, Mya Malloy, and Delena Steimer received 2nd place for their submission.  They are still waiting to hear from NASA if their design will be used as the next mission patch.
