On Wednesday, May 4, the Penn-Trafford High School “Students Against Destructive Decisions” (SADD) club held a Safety Expo to raise awareness of the dangers of drinking alcohol. During their lunch and study hall breaks, students were encouraged to visit the expo to pick up literature, keychains, frisbees wrist bracelets, and to try on some drunk simulation goggles to see how difficult it is to perform simple activities when intoxicated.
Students had difficulty shooting hoops, putting golf balls, and stacking cups while wearing the goggles. They were encouraged to think about how drinking and driving could have terrible repercussions.
Many organizations assisted with the event: AAA (East Central), Westmoreland Drug and Alcohol Commission, “Brandon’s Dad” Vernon Hilyer for DUI Awareness, Children’s Hospital, Ladd Wagner State Farm Insurance, PennDOT, and Highway Safety Network.
