The Penn-Trafford High School Football Team has been on cloud nine since becoming PIAA Class 5A State Champions on December 10, 2021. They’ve received parades in their honor and were recognized at a school board meeting and a Pittsburgh Steelers football game. But one of their greatest accolades came when Representative George Dunbar and Senator Kim Ward invited them to Harrisburg to be acknowledged both by the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The team traveled to Harrisburg on January 25th where they were received by Representative Dunbar (56th District) and Senator Ward (Westmoreland County), received lunch, and took a behind-the-scenes tour of the Capitol. The team was honored during sessions of both the House and the Senate and received citations of accomplishment.
“We were treated to an incredible experience and honor by both the Senate and the House of Representatives,” commented Coach John Ruane. “Our players had a one-of-a-kind learning experience and truly appreciated every minute of the visit. It was unique, aweing, and something that none of us will forget.”
Penn-Trafford’s state championship came during the school’s 50th anniversary year.
