‘Trunk or Treat’ Treats the Community to a Fun Night

Four interns from Mrs. Kathy Kelly-Garris’ Media & Literacy class at Penn-Trafford High School planned and executed a successful “Trunk or Treat” event for children in the local community.   Seniors Taylor Jones, Malia Kearns, Juliana Sgambati and Kenna Schropp coordinated with eighteen different school groups to provide games, candy, and crafts for students up to grade 6.  Among the groups participating were varsity sports teams (Boys Basketball, Cheerleading, Football, Girls Soccer, Lacrosse), clubs (Bike Club, CAP, Drama Guild, Environment Club, NHS, SADD, SNHS, Stage Crew) and organizations like Student Union, Yearbook class, Media Literacy, and Coffee for a Cause.

On the evening of October 27, each group parked it's decorated vehicle in the high school parking lot, and then the costume-clad children made their way from one end of the lot to the other, collecting candy and enjoying the many activities available along the way.  About 400 children participated in the event.

One of the interns, Taylor Jones, commented “The event was fun to organize, and it was very rewarding in the end to see all the kids smiling and interacting with the high school students.”  The class is already considering making the Trunk or Treat an annual event.
