May 27th marked the end of a remarkable chapter for 331 Penn-Trafford seniors who graduated under a beautiful, sunny sky. As the students emerged from the Penn-Trafford School District, there was also a sense of emergence from some of the COVID-19 restrictions which have plagued the world for over a year. Unlike last year’s graduation ceremony which had stringent gathering limits and social-distancing requirements, all of this year’s seniors - along with eight guests each - gathered together at Warrior Stadium.
“This ceremony was special,” said Principal Tony Aquilio. “These students and families have been through so much uncertainty in the last 18 months. It was encouraging to give them a traditional ceremony to close out their high school career.”
The evening included speeches by Michael Mervosh (Salutatorian), Elizabeth Cermak (Senior Class President), Juliana Paliscak (Senior Class Orator), Andrew Reese (Graduate Orator), and Julia Hauck (Valedictorian).
“The students who spoke from the Class of 2021 summed up the year in a positive manner with their messages about what they gained versus what they lost, resilience, hope, and an appreciation for all the support from their school, community, and families,” commented Superintendent Dr. Matthew Harris. “I wish all of our graduates success in whatever adventures come their way, and I hope that they can look back on their senior year and feel a sense of accomplishment for a job well done.”
