Penn-Trafford High School held its 5th annual Engineering Day in collaboration with Westinghouse Electric Company on April 20, 2021. Joshua Phillips, a Senior Engineer at Westinghouse, worked with Penn-Trafford Junior, Avery Hofmeister, to plan and deliver a day full of engaging activities and opportunities for students to ask questions about careers in the engineering field.
Students learned virtually about the history of Westinghouse and the various disciplines of Engineering. Then they discussed the issue of climate change in small groups and created 5-minute elevator pitches sharing their ideas for improvement through engineering.
The following Westinghouse engineers volunteered their time to participate and present meaningful content to the students: Steven Ira (Senior Vice President, Outage & Maintenance Services), Patrick Sebastiani (Fellow Engineer), Madelynn Monte (Customer Account Engineer for Korea and Japan), Christopher Sinback (Senior Marketing Engineer), Nicholas Piplica (Principal Engineer), Matthew Silbaugh (Principal Engineer) and Cenk Güler (PWR Core Methods Manager).
